metals

SteelWeaver only uses saw cut rings in the creation of our chainmaille. This makes every ring close perfectly, with no burrs, gaps, or misshaping. All of these links are made in house.

Sterling Silver: What can you say. It’s silver. A staple in jewelry creation. This is the basic silver which is used in many cast rings, with “925″ stamped on them. This is 92.5% pure silver, and typically a few percent copper for strength.

Fine Silver: Fine Silver is 99.9% pure silver. This has a much more white looking appearance, and does not tarnish as fast as Sterling Silver. Slightly more expensive, but worth the extra cost. This is what SteelWeaver recommends for all Silver pieces.

Gold, Goldfill, and Platinum: Gold is not recommended for chainmaille except in certain cases, and then only in 10 or 14k. Goldfill is a common replacement to pure gold. Platinum makes lovely jewelry, and is really quite strong. These are available only on request. These metals fluctuate in price, so please contact me for the most recent market value.

Titanium: This is the stuff that dreams are made of. It is about half of the weight of steel, it is extremely strong, and has a grey-whitish shine to it. It is incredible for both jewelry and clothing. Titanium does not rust, will not oxidize, and has no reactions with human skin. It can be polished to shine like silvery hematite or left matte finish.

Anodized Titanium: Take the praise of regular Titanium and add colours! This is an electrically caused reaction of the metal. It will not wear off easily, will not chip off easily, and stays bright! The changing of the colour does not change it’s ability to have no reactions with skin.

Niobium: Niobium is a reactive metal. This means that it can be anodized to an array of beautiful colours, much like titanium only more vivid. In chainmaille, it’s most popular use is in adding a slight flair of colour, or used as an accent. It will not rust and is completely hypoallergenic. Niobium has a similar colour spectrum as titanium when anodized, only because of it’s brightness, there are a few more colours that can be achieved with Noibium.

stones

SteelWeaver is diving headlong into integrating stones into a lot of our work. Most of the pieces that have stones set into them are one of a kind pieces. There are a few “generic” stones that are kept in stock for pendants and keychains and the like. However, if there’s a specific stone, shape, or colour that you are wanting, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Gem Cabochons: These are stones that have flat backs, and are used as pendants, insets, or cameos. Most of these are bought already made, but recently some have been made by SteelWeaver with one of our new machines! Some of the precious stones are Amethyst, Jade, Ruby, Emerald, and natural opals!

Gem Spheres: These stones are perfectly round, and are used as pendants, with tight maille wraps, and in keychains. These are all purchased from outside sources, but we’re hoping to get a sphere making machine for our own uses.

Freeform Stones: These are freely cut and shaped to whatever the stone (or customer) needs. These will either appear as whims of SteelWeaver’s fancy, or custom orders. Any shape stone can be ordered to accent a piece. Just contact us.

clasps

There are now many clasps for you to choose from, that are made of pure Sterling Silver, Gold Fill, even Stainless Steel and Titanium! Some only work with specific sized items, so please ask if the clasp will work with what you are ordering.

Bar Clasps: These are great looking, and are really quite secure. One of the more ornate types of clasp that are available. These are the standard O and Bar clasp, which relies on tension and weight to stay closed. Quite secure too. There are basic versions, and ones that are made into designs. If you have a specific style in mind, just ask!

Sterling Silver Slide Clasp: These clasps are meant for wider jewelry, or jewelry with multiple strands of maille. There are 3 different sizes to match pretty much anything you can put on it. They are incredibly secure, as they slide together and lock in the closed position. These are available in 2, 3 or 4 strand configuration.

Sterling Silver Lobster Clasp : This is the most common machine-made clasp in our lineup. Good and sturdy, and made of pure Sterling Silver. This is available in a few sizes, and a couple of different shapes. Whichever suits the piece the best will be used, unless a specific one is needed.

Gold Filled Lobster Clasp: This clasp matches anything made of Gold or Gold Filled rings. It provides a secure hold on your jewelry, and matches the piece completely.

Titanium Lobster Clasp: These are lobster clasps available in only 2 sizes, but are made of Titanium! They can be anodized to match a piece, and are very strong. An excellent addition to the lineup.
